Building the Capacity of National Public Health Systems in Delivering the Essential Functions

30th April 2026, 9:30am - 11:00am, Online

Join us for a special event hosted by the Faculty of Public Health's Global Health Committee

This webinar will provide FPH members with a clear overview of the Faculty’s formal collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) to support the development of national public health systems and strengthen delivery of the Essential Public Health Functions worldwide.

Key speakers from the UK, WHO, and international partners will showcase the Faculty’s long-standing commitment to global partnership and its ongoing focus on strengthening education, training, and system capability. Contributions will highlight how these efforts are helping to address contemporary and emerging public health challenges at a global scale.

The session will also outline practical ways in which FPH members can engage with this work. In particular, it will explain how members may build on existing professional links to collaborate more closely with WHO, including opportunities to work as Temporary Advisers in specific countries. These roles support WHO’s efforts to strengthen the public health workforce and enhance national capacity to implement the Essential Public Health Functions.

Key speakers include:

  • Khassoum Diallo, Acting Director, Health Workforce, WHO
  • Lara Kontos, UKHSA
  • Fatai Ogunlayi, Consultant in Public Health, FPH Director of Training, FPH Africa Special Interest Group
